World’s Smallest Park

The 2nd Saturday volunteers worked at the 'World's Smallest Park", according
to one passer by,   here in Nowata at the intersection of Galer and Pine.  The
small area that divides the lanes at the intersection has a flower bed that was
originally planted by Lucille Gillespie, but in the past few years, had fallen into
disrepair.  

Work began on the flowerbed by the Nowata County OHCE Domestic Divas
group in the spring was completed on Saturday, July 11.  A big “Thank You” to
Homeland for the donation of geraniums, to the City of Nowata Beautification
Committee for the periwinkles and weed block cloth and to the Nowata Area
Chamber of Commerce for providing pine bark mulch through the Great
American Clean Up grant.

Since March 2009, the Second Saturday volunteers have done clean up, paint
and repair  in several areas in the Nowata area including Double Creek Cove,
downtown Nowata, Nowata parks, Nowata County Fairgrounds, and the Nowata
Boys & Girls Club.

The next volunteer workday is scheduled for Saturday, August 14, at the Nowata
County Fairgrounds from 8:30-11:30.  Lunch will be provided.   For more
