Nowata Entry Signs Fund Raising Begins!

During the Nowata Trade Days held earlier in September, Bob Nunallee was the
lucky winner of the 50/50 drawing to begin raising funds for the new Nowata
entry signs.  Mr. Nunnallee generously donated more than half of his winnings,
bringing the beginning total for the fundraiser to $92.00.   Other donations
coming in include fair winnings from Denise Hewitt and door prize dollars from
Joe Dettle.  If you would like to donate to the sign fund, an account entitled Keep
Nowata Beautiful  has been set up at ARVEST Bank or you may call 559 2634
for information.

The newly formed Keep Nowata Beautiful doing the fund raising for the signs
being made by Universal Signs is a result of the Tourism and Beautification
committee generated from the Rural Economic Development workshops.. Paul
Hughes, of Universal Signs, designed  several different sign examples  to the
committee, which were then presented for selection in March at the all committee
meeting of the rural development workshops.

This is also the first major project of the organization. The original group has
been meeting monthly since January to determine priorities for coordination of
beautification and tourism efforts for Nowata.  Members of the committee include
Nowata city and county residents who are interested in economic development
for the Nowata area through tourism, recreation and beautification.

The committee voted to form a 501(c)3 organization entitled Keep Nowata
Beautiful , after representatives attended  a workshop in May  hosted by the
state’s Keep Oklahoma Beautiful organization  and the Broken Arrow Chamber
of Commerce.   Following the models introduced at the workshop, the purpose
of the organization will be to help support the already established groups
working on beautification such as the City of Nowata Beautification Committee,
Chamber of Commerce, the Boy Scouts, GFWC La Kee Kon,  Second Saturday
volunteers, etc., with resources through opportunities offered by the Keep
Oklahoma Beautiful and Keep American Beautiful organizations as well as other
state and national organizations interested in promoting safe, clean and
beautiful towns and cities .   The group’s non profit status will also give access to
resources available only to 501(c)3 organizations and will aid in expanding
Nowata’s opportunities for tourism and beautification.

An  October 15 Chicken & Noodles Dinner will be the next  event to raise the
funds needed for the new signs to be placed at the entrances to Nowata.  The
event will be held from 11:30-1:30 on  at the First Christian Church Fellowship
Hall.  Dinner will include  delicious chicken and noodles, green beans, roll,
dessert mad drink for $5.00.  Pre-sale ticket holders will also be entered in a
drawing for door prizes and will be eligible for meal delivery.  Tickets are on sale
now and may be purchased by calling Billie Roane at 559 2534 or any member
of the committee which includes:  Connie Pearsall, Kay Dettle, Denice Hewitt,
Ginger Bohananna, Suzan Perkins and Nancy Oglesby.
