Nowata Chamber of Commerce
On Oct. 23rd, from 2 to 4 p.m, . the Nowata County Historical Society will
sponsor a Book Signing at the Nowata County Historical Museum for Charlotte
Anne Smith, long-time Nowata county resident.
Smith has been a professional writer since 1968, and has sold to over 100
different publications. "Riding the Airways" is the second anthology in which she
has been featured. The previous one was "A Treasury of Farm Women’s
Humor".
The current collection, published by the House of White Birches, contains
articles written about the early days of radio and television and how they
affected their listeners. Her article, "Tap Dancing on the Radio" is about
listening to tap dancers perform on the variety shows of the 30s and 40s.
Smith’s contribution was previously published in Good Old Days Magazine, a
periodical in which she has appeared a number of times. She has been a long-
time correspondent for the Tulsa World, Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise,
Coffeyville Journal, Nowata People Paper and Farm Talk and a former staff
writer for the Nowata Star. She has also served as editor of the Lake Keystone
News at Mannford , OK and reporter and section editor for the El Dorado Times
in El Dorado , KS . She currently serves as President of Oklahoma Mystery
Writers.
Everyone is welcome and Smith will answer questions pertaining to her
profession.
