VFW Scholarship Press Release
2012

NOWATA COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL 2012 SENIORS COULD WIN A $250
SCHOLARSHIP

Commander John Black of the Nowata Veterans of Foreign Wars is pleased to
announce that the VFW is now accepting applications for the 2012 VFW
Continuing Education Scholarship Program.
The theme for this year’s scholarship competition will be “How Can I Honor
Veterans”? According to the Commander, the students earn much more than a
scholarship when they participate in the scholarship program. The additional
benefits include increased self-confidence, a better awareness of veterans’
experiences through research while doing their essay, as well as the opportunity
for self-expression.
Commander Black stated that, “We are happy to offer students this type of
opportunity in these harsh economical times. Young people who participate in
our essay competition will benefit by gaining a better understanding of what
soldiers go through.”
VFW Scholarship Chairperson Kimberly Smoak stated that, “The VFW is very
honored to be able to assist our youth in attending institutes of higher learning;
this in turn, helps form our nations future in a positive way.”
Applications are available after October 11, 2011 at the 3 Nowata County High
School Guidance Counselors Offices or the Nowata VFW, 747 S Maple St,
Nowata, OK. Essay turn-in deadline is January 9th, 2012. Winners will be
notified February 15th, 2012
